Puto Kutsinta

Ingredients:

For the Kutsinta:

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp powdered milk
  • 1 tsp lye water
  • 2 cups water

For the Puto:

  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3 tbsp powdered milk
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

For the Toppings:

  • 1 cup grated cheese
  • 1 cup grated coconut

For the Flavored kusinta (optional):

  • 1/4 tsp buko pandan
  • 1/4 tsp ube

Procedure:

  1. Lightly grease the molders
  2. Bring 1 liter of water to a boil
  3. Kutsinta: In a bowl combine all purpose flour, brown sugar, powdered milk, water and lye water. Mix well
  4. Strain mixture
  5. Fill half of each molder with kutsinta mixture
  6. Steam over med. low heat for 5 minutes
  7. *after 5 minutes do the toothpick check and if it’s firm the kutsinta is cook.
  8. Remove from steamer and let it cool
  9. Puto: In a bowl combine all purpose flour, sugar, powdered milk, baking powder, water and vanilla extract. Mix well
  10. Strain mixture
  11. Pour 1/8 cup puto mixture into each molder
  12. Steam for another 8-10 min. over low heat
  13. *after 8-10min. do the toothpick check and if it comes out clean or with few moist crumbs the puto is cook
  14. Let it cool before unmolding
  15. Top with grated cheese or grated coconut
