Japanese Beef Bowl Recipe

Now you can enjoy your very own Japanese beef bowl without going to Japan or a Japanese restaurant. Although not entirely authentic, this recipe makes use of ingredients that are readily available, making it doable for anyone.

  • 500 g beef sirloin sukiyaki cut
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup cooking oil
  • 6 cups cooked rice

For the Stir-Fried Vegetables:

  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 1/2 tbsp ginger minced
  • 1 pc white onion sliced
  • 1 cup carrots cut into sticks
  • 1 pc green bell pepper seeded and cut into sticks
  • 250 g togue
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper


  • Marinate beef sirloin with soy sauce, salt, and brown sugar for 30 minutes.
  • Heat cooking oil in a wok. Stir-fry beef for about 3 minutes.
  • To prepare the vegetables, heat cooking oil in a separate pan. Saute ginger and onions.
  • Increase heat, and add the carrots, bell pepper, and togue. Stir-fry for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Season with soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
  • Scoop out rice onto a serving bowl. Top with the beef and vegetables.
